Traffic in the sky

So this morning going to school, the weather did not want to cooperate. It was raining buckets, thunder, lightening, and black skies. As the boy and I were driving to his school, about half a mile or so away, we had to endure the Texas idiots that believe water falling from the sky is a sure sign that Jesus is coming back, RIGHT. THIS. INSTANT.

So as we sit still on the main road between the Casa and the school, we are listening to music, watching the rain, and talking about his two favorite subjects of late, Indiana Jones and Power Rangers-Jungle Fury.

Suddenly, he reaches over, and pulls the gearshift straight back, dropping it into the lowest possible gear. I guess I came a little unglued, as I could see him shifting gears as mom was rolling, throwing it into reverse or park and causing a huge wreck. I not so calmly explained to him that he should NEVER touch anything in the car unless he was sitting in the drivers seat.

He looked at me, not quite used to me raising my voice to him, especially in the mornings, and said:

"What? I just wanted to go faster. I am tired of sitting here!"

I had to restrain the laughter, but I made it.
